Hailing from the Big Isle, Sean Langman started Noakes Boatyard in Sydney in 2006. He now operators a yard in Port Huon, in front of the Kermandie Hotel and next to the Port Huon Marina. The site offers repairs and maintenance services to all types of boats, not only wooden classics. The yard is also home to classic Tasmanian fishing vessel, Olive May, which is currently on the hard on display. Noakes also has a strong passion for employing youth and offering apprenticeships in the industry. Sean believes this is a great way to give a sense of worth to not only the industry, but to the older more experience tradespeople, by giving them an opportunity to pass on their skills and knowledge to the fresh faces. During this tour, expect to see Olive May and hear some of her stories from over the past 100 years, along with other vessels at various stages of completion. Take a wander around the Port Huon Marina while you're there, you might even spot some famous Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race competitors.
