Steam Bending Net Workshop with Ian Johnston
Spend some time with one of the AWBF's founding members, Ian Johnston at the Wooden Boat Centre, Franklin and craft yourself a uniquely Tasmanian fishing net. Steam bending is the woodworking technique where strips of wood is steamed in a heated box, resulting in the wood becoming pliable enough to bend into particular shapes.
In this workshop you will be create the frame for a fishing net, and then netting the frame to create your own complete fishing net. Ian may tell you a story or two about his infamous fishing hauls using his fishing net, he might even let you know about some of the original festival secrets!
Your venue alone is enough of a reason to buy a ticket, as this workshop is held at the Wooden Boat Centre, in Franklin (meaning you can get up close and personal with the Franklin 29 vessel and loads of Huon Pine).
