Quintet was built in 1968 in Tauranga, New Zealand by Geoff Simpson as a fast family cruiser-racer. She is one of five built to Bill Mitchinson’s innovative design which foreshadowed the NZ cruiser/racer yachts of the 1970s and 80s. Quintet successfully raced in NZ, achieving a 24 hour run of 211 miles in the 1975 Whangarei to Noumea race. She then cruised extensively in the SW Pacific and Queensland where she was home to Geoff and June for 16 years. She is now based in Kettering and has been gradually refitted, by her current owner, Kathy Veel.
